MEMORIAL CANDLES

An integral aspect of the ministry of Catholic Cemeteries is to provide for the spiritual needs of our families. As part of the fulfillment of this commitment, Masses are celebrated on Memorial Day and throughout the year in memory of our deceased loved ones.

Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdioceses of Newark holds a candle lighting ceremony during mass. The ceremony is held in the chapels of the mausoleums of Holy Cross Cemetery, Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Holy Name Cemetery, Maryrest Cemetery and St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Prayer for the Feast of All Souls
Merciful Father, in union with the Church Triumphant in Heaven we beseech You have mercy on the souls who have died in your friendship and await admittance into the joys of heaven. Be mindful of Your eternal love for them and show them clemency because of the boundless merits of Your Beloved Son.
Loving Savior, Jesus Christ, You are the King of Kings in the land of eternal bliss. I beg You, in Your mercy hear my prayer and present to Your Father as a gift the redeemed souls of my beloved firiends and relatives; lean them through the period of final preparation into the light and freedom of the children of God in the kingdom of Your glory.
Eternal rest grant them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
